Ludwig changes from white to
clear interior
Q: When did the Ludwig Drum Company switch from the white resacote interiors to the clear maple finish?
A: Over the years,
as Ludwig drums would come in for repair, restoration, or refinishing, I
would record information pertaining to specific features, including date
stamps, serial numbers, and interior finishes. Using that data, it seems
as though white resacote interiors were common through, at least the
first quarter of 1968,
with clear maple interiors taking over by the middle of that year. I
don't imagine there was a precise date the switch was made, but it was
most likely phased-in sometime during the second quarter of 1968.
